PETALING JAYA: Even the possibility of a huge storm couldn't stop the 10,000 strong crowd from showing up at Sunway Surf Beach at the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park last night to catch American boyband Backstreet Boys live.

Barely an hour before the concert was due to start, thunder and rain threatened to dampen the atmosphere at the concert, the band's first concert in Malaysia since the Force of Nature Tsunami Relief Concert in 2004.

“The skies are clear, and we are here ... Backstreet's back!” shouted McLean as he thanked the crowd for showing up.

PETALING JAYA: The organiser of American pop group The Backstreet Boys' concert here next week has assured fans of a smashing show.

The boys will rock the floor next week as part of their Unbreakable World Tour 2008, which follows the release of their sixth album Unbreakable in October.

“From what was seen at their concerts in the other legs, the one here will not be much different. It will be entertaining and mind-blowing,” said executive director Arianna Teoh.

“The show will include their older hits and current chart-toppers. Fans can also expect sensational on-stage performances,” she said.

The group had spent more than a year recording the well-received album, which marks a confident return to the charts.

The four-man group comprises Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean and Nick Carter. This tour will be the first without Kevin Richardson, who left the band two years ago.

The group, formed in 1993, has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.

Two South American dates have been added to the Unbreakable tour schedule: the Boys will be in Monterrey on March 12 and in Guadalajara on March 27, both in Mexico.

George Nozuka posted in his official Site that he will be the opening act for the Backstreet Boys on their Japan concert dates, February 16 and 17. Hear him sing his songs off his new album, Believe, that features Dance With Me and Butterfly.

In the mid-1990s, there was no bigger pop group in the world than the Backstreet Boys. The heartthrobs ruled the airwaves with their sappy ballads and smooth dance moves. Teenage girls swooned over them, as they earnestly sang ``Quit Playing Games With My Heart," and ``As Long As You Love Me."

Like most boy bands, the Backstreet Boys had some problems transitioning from being cute teenage heartthrobs to mature adults. But the group has successfully moved on to a more pop-rock and R&B sound, as seen in their seventh album ``Unbreakable."

Definitely no longer boys, the Backstreet Boys will show their mature side in concert, March 8 at the Olympic Fencing Gymnasium, Olympic Park. They are returning to Seoul after a successful concert in 2006.
