AJ picked up the phone and started dialing. He had to let his mom know what was up. 7-8-6
What was the next number? What was it? What was it?
"Damnit!" He slammed the phone down.
He couldn't remember the number.
This must be what it feels like to be Nick. He thought.
He hadn't dialed his mother's number since 8 months earlier when he'd called to tell her he was dumping her management services for those of someone more professional. He loved his mother, but a good manger she was not.
She emailed him 3 weeks later saying that she would not be attending his and Sarah's nuptials. He'd hurt her. But she was his mother and needed to know her baby boy was in trouble.
"She'd only be disappointed." he said to himself as he paced the room. "Like that time I got the word Poopy tattoed on my arm... and the time I named my dogs Twinkies and Mountain Dew... whatever happened to them?"
After meeting Sarah, he had dumped his Yorkies off at the pound and picked up two giant dogs of an unknown breed. It was at Sarah's insistence that they purchased pets who matched her bra size. Now she was gone and so were his beloved Yorkies.
He heard the lock click open on the door and rushed over. Kevin was standing outsided dressed in military garb and yielding weapons. He had taken it upon himself to guard that room until AJ was well. He sternly grabbed a bewildered Nick by the collar and tossed him into the room with AJ. "Visitor, Mclean. 15 minutes."
He slammed the door shut and locked it.
"So how ya feeling?"
"They took my sunglasses and my leopard print hat. How do you think I'm feeling?"
Nick shuffled his feet, unsure of what to say. "Well, um... I wrote some songs for the album. You know, the one we keep saying we're gonna record but never do?... Wanna hear?"
AJ didn't answer. Nick took that as his cue to showcase his musical prowess.
Nick closed his eyes and started singing softly. "You... you... yoooouuu.... you you you... yoouuuuuu.... you, you, you... yoooouu, you you you yoooooooooou are miiii-ine."
Nick exhaled deeply and opened his eyes. "What do you think?"
AJ's look of discontent answered the question for him.
"What about this one?" Nick stood up and attempted some fancy footwork as he sang. "Download my love and install it in your heart. Save it on the start menu."
And people wonder why I do the things that send me to rehab. AJ thought to himself. "Nick, I appreciate the gesture, but... those songs suck."
"Okay fine." Nick spat out, through clenched teeth. "Even though I sang 'I Wanna Be Happy' with you."
Nick headed for the door. AJ stepped in front of him. "Nick, I'm sorry. I've been having a rough time."
"Why did you do it? Why did you fall off the wagon?"
"I boned some chick and then Sarah dumped me..." AJ confessed. "Why do girls keep dumping me?"
"Why do you keep boning around?"
"I can't help it!"
The door swung open and banged against the wall. Kevin marched in. "No yelling, Mclean!!"
"Shut up!!"
I said no yelling, Mclean!!" Kevin grabbed AJ by the collar of his shirt.
"Kevin, let go!" Nick pleaded.
"Stay out of this pip squeak!!"
Nick's mouth opened and shut. No comeback would come out. "Security!!!" he screamed.
A big black burly security guard came in. "What's going on?"
Get this man out of here!" Nick spat.
The guard looked Kevin up and down and smirked at his military outfit. He pulled him off of AJ. "Let's go private."
"His name is Kevin!" Nick yelled out as they headed towards the door.
"Is that so, sassy pants?" The security guard let go of Kevin, and grabbed Nick by the ear and dragged him out of the room.
Kevin walked in a circle around AJ, looking him up and down. "We really need to do something about this temper of yours, Alex."
"Don't ever call me Alex! I told you only girls can call me Alex!"
"What is this fixation you have with women, Alex?" Kevin paced in a circle around AJ some more.
"Look why don't you just leave my room, Mr. Hulk Of Perfection."
Kevin's eyes boiled red as his anger began to rise again.
"Stop trying to control my life! Now get out!"
Steam started to come out of Kevin's ears as AJ gave him a shove. Kevin didn't budge an inch.
"GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM!!"
Kevin grabbed AJ by the collar. "Don't you ever, EVER, raise your voice at me."
"SECURITY!!" AJ bellowed down the hallway. The same big burly security guard came back. "Please remove this tresspasser from my sight."
"Yes sir, Mr. Mclean."
The security guard picked up Kevin and threw him over his shoulder.
"Oh my god!" Kevin screamed as he was carried out of the room and deposited outside on the sidewalk.
