When Leigh got out of the pantry, no one is in the common area. They probably went out to grab the free breakfast for the employees at one of the hotel's restaurant. She sat on a chair and started with her donut. She turned when a kid ran past by her. The girl stopped when she saw the donut.
"Hi. Can I have one?"
Leigh smiled but wondered what is she doing there. She patted the seat beside her. She loves kids, especially that she's fond of her younger brother Nick. She faced the experience of being like a mother in an early age when she assumed responsibility to herself for taking care of Nick. The little girl sat beside her. Leigh put the box near her.
"Do you want juice or anything?"
"Water please," the little girl looked up to her with a polite smile. Leigh was charmed. This cute little one knows how to give respect to the elders. She stood up to get water. When she returned, she chuckled when the little girl had chocolate smudges on her face.
"Here you go, sweetheart." She took some napkin and wiped the smudge off the girl's face.
"Thank you. My name's Rianne."
"I'm Leigh." She looked down to the kid. "Where are your parents, by the way? They're probably looking for you now."
"They're gone. I live with my uncle," The little girl's eyes grew sad.
"I'm sorry, Rianne." Leigh said. "Do you love donuts?"
"Yes."
"After that, I'll take you back to your uncle." Leigh wondered how did the kid get in to that part of the hotel.
"Don't worry. My uncle is just on the other side of the room. He'll be looking for me anytime now." Rianne said and drinks her water. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Huh? Uh -"
"Because you can go out with my uncle. I heard he needs someone right now," the little girl said. Her uncle might not know how smart this kid is despite her young age. He should know that he should not be talking in front of the little girl about things he doesn't want her to know.
"I don't think so, Rianne. I don't know your uncle. And I -"
"You know him."
Leigh laughed. Rianne was shaking her head. She takes another donut and makes a big bite. The door opened and Leigh was surprised to see the man she saw yesterday. She tried not to frown in front of the kid.
"Uncle!" Rianne exclaimed and opened her arms wide.
"What are you doing here?" Howard Dorough went inside and stood in front of their table. He is frowning but Rianne seemed not to mind her uncle's mood.
"Who are you asking?" Leigh asked.
Howie turned to her. "Do you work here?"
"Yes." She stood up. "I work in the Marketing Department, Mr. Dorough."
"So you know me." He folded his arms across his chest.
"Yes, sir."
She thought he would say something but her boss only nodded and turned to Rianne. "Let's go, Rianne." He welcomed the little girl's open arms and picked her up. Leigh watched them go. When the two were gone, she realized that she's holding her breath since Howard Dorough arrived. How could his presence affect her so much for the second time around?
She slowly sits down and finished her coffee. She's probably having a crush on the hotel's owner. And he did not even ask for her name, she sighed.
