"Well, guys, I'll go ahead." Leighanne grabbed her backpack and went out of the office. She needs to go to the diner for her three-hour shift.

"Oh, Leighanne. I'll just have to tell you this..." Gina said and showed her a paper. She smiled while Leighanne frowned.

"He took a bid?" Leighanne sighed heavily and continued on her way. She decided to drop by the gym first. She knew where to find that guy. She reached the gym and passed by the lockers. She saw Brian's locker and the sneakers that lie in front of it. She grinned and put it on top of his locker. And then, she went to the basketball court. She almost reached the court when the double doors burst open. Brian saw her and grinned.

"Hey, you're here! Too bad we're done with the practice."

Leighanne's hands were on her waist. "I didn't come here to watch you."

"Well, I'm still flattered - oh, wait..." He stopped when Leighanne pulled him to a nearby room which happened to be a utility closet.

"Why did you take the bidding to be my prom date?"

Brian stared at her for a while and then, he laughed. Leighanne realized that he is a little taller than her now. She frowned. "What's funny?"

Brian refrained from laughing but a smile remained. "Nothing's funny. I'm sorry."

She looked in his eyes and realized her mistake. He certainly has a beautiful pair of blue eyes. And despite being sweaty and all, after a basketball practice, he still smelled nice.

"I want to be your prom date. I don't see anything wrong with that." She heard Brian said.

"You're only a sophomore!"

"And so?" Brian raised an eyebrow, and looked cuter. Leighanne scolded herself for that.

"I don't want to be your date."

Brian nodded. His arms were folded across his chest. "Alright. Why?"

Leighanne's lips were set in one thin line. Why didn't she want him anyway? She racked her brains for reasons but when she met his eyes again, her mind went blank.

"Let me make you think otherwise, Leighanne," Brian softly held her chin, leaned closer and kissed her. Her eyes widened, but not with surprise, but for the sensations that the kiss brought her. His tender lips smoothly touched hers, soothing, reassuring, promising. He actually kissed better than Phil.

Phil! She pushed Brian away. And she hated the feeling of emptiness when they pulled apart. Brian was smiling. "Did you feel the spark?"

"No!" Leighanne said, but it was more like convincing herself. She walked pass by him and went out of the room. The hall was already empty. She walked faster. She heard Brian went out of the room. She rushed out. She needs to be at her father's diner.
